Headshots – Are You Looking Your Best?
If you’re coming to a head shot photo shoot – whether you’re looking to update an acting or modelling portfolio or simply to update your corporate image, you will want to be looking and feeling your best. It’s likely that you will be using your head shot images for at least a year, so it’s worth paying a little attention to grooming, including your hair and makeup, before you come to visit the studio.
Your hair is often an integral part of your look so, whether you will be wearing it up or down, you’ll want to make sure it’s styled just as you like it. If you want an extra boost, you could schedule your head shot appointment just after your hairstylist appointment, so you come to visit the studio ‘salon fresh’.
For men, it’s also worth considering your facial hair according to the image you wish to portray. For example, if you are looking to create a clean cut and professional image, then come freshly shaved, or if you prefer a bit of a beard or five o’clock shadow then just make sure it’s neatly trimmed.
How you look in your head shot image will often be the first time a potential client will see you and so you want to make sure that the impression you create fits with your profession or skillset.
In terms of makeup, you’ll often hear that you need to over apply it compared to your normal daywear, so it doesn’t wash out when you’re in front of studio lighting. That isn’t really true with today’s modern lighting and styles. The setup we use provides a very natural finish so using your normal amount of makeup will be just fine. It’s worth bringing along some powder with you to your session so you can touch up any shine when you arrive.
We often get asked if we airbrush the images and this is a difficult one to answer as everyone is different and ‘airbrushing’ can mean different things to different people. With a head shot image, we’re trying to show a true representation of what you look like although it is the ‘best version’ of you looking polished and professional. Any temporary blemishes will be removed, and a certain amount of skin smoothing will take place just to give your image a boost.
We don’t believe however in altering your face, facial features, or body shape, or reduce your age – you’re perfect as you are plus, you’re likely to meet the people that see your photo online and you want them to know that it’s you.
If you’re looking to update your online image presence, then just get in touch to book in for your head shot photo shoot at our relaxed West Sussex studio. You can choose from two options.
